THE FEAR OF MISSING SOMETHING

It may well be that at this specific moment someone, somewhere is having more fun than you, making more money than you, doing something more important, with better friends and a happier ending....

Do you feel you're missing out, that somewhere in your universe something isn't right? That something is happening around or within you which is "not OK"?

Even with all the assets and privileges we have at our disposal "joy" and "happiness" are hard to find. I often think that we have set ourselves up to avoid either or both in everything we do. OK, we are connected electronically (I'm not, by the way.. and want to stay that way) as it seems to amplify the emotions we don't wish to experience in the long run.

Fear of missing out has always existed but the wonderful gadgetry we have in our pocket brings that fear directly to you wherever you are - just by a vibration!

And yet...

Part of our brain remains on high alert to make sure everything is OK and it can't / won't rest until it knows we are always well-liked, that nobody is offended, everything is "on the up" and the future is assured and positive....

But...of course, the future (like the present) is never perfect - we are human  and live in an imperfect world. The combination of the pain we may feel from others having a good time (or at least better than us) PLUS the insatiable desire for everything to be fine, conspire to make us distracted, unhappy and most of all, make us wish we were somewhere else!

The only place "joy" and "happiness" can be found is right here, right now...anyone who is selling you dissatisfaction is selfish in the extreme!

Until next time (happily in the here and now),

  1. Food for thought, P.S. So many people for so much of the time exhibit similar feelings to those you mention - although the vast majority would NEVER admit to it. And let's be honest, living for all the "good" things is a waste of time and energy!!

  3. You have faithfully depicted our current situation yet again! I agree with you completely. I believe we all have our paths in life and we should not compare with others. Call it karma or whatever you like. We are here on Earth for some reason and we have a task to accomplish. We might not know why, yet we only need to listen to our inner ear and do what we believe we need to. Hence, we can't be missing out on something, as it is a part of someone else's task. Time is too precious to waste on such "good" things. Those selling you dissatisfaction have not grasped their task and the meaning of life, according to me. Thank you, Lucana
