AN EPIGRAPH FROM JOSÉ SARAMAGO

I believe this assertion will resonate across all countries on all continents:

“I ask all political economists, all moralists
and those who believe they count for something in this world,
to calculate the number of individuals who must be
condemned to misery, overwork,
demoralisation, childhood death, absolute
ignorance, overwhelming misfortune and total poverty
in order to produce one rich man

I have seldom come across such a sentiment written with such potency. I ask that each of you who read these words to pass the message to others – perhaps, just perhaps, a difference can be made.

It must!

Until next time (with humility),

  1. Just excellent, P.S. One of the most "potent" from you. I have not come across this person before but will check out his work - seems to be a lot for discussion and I thank you.

  2. So true! The difference must be made, I absolutely agree. Nevertheless, the path towards change is an extremely arduous one.
    Thank you

  3. Mark, thank you. Yes within a few words lies a wealth of thinking - and room for action. Get the class considering it.
