Much learned work has been written over the centuries about his four compatriots and I do not intend to add to it since my knowledge is minimal in comparison. I want to consider number five. This one was “late getting to the party” and was a deliberate tactic on his part since he saw, over millennia, how the fate of his colleagues rose and fell. From time to time they still inflict horror over parts (and occasionally all) of the planet, but the fifth can and does profit nevertheless.
Number five is “Greed” and his approach differed from that of the others. He does not arrive on a horse but the latest model high-powered car. He perceived the way to long-lasting success was to change himself and, like a chameleonic parasite, he embedded himself into the mind of man. In the course of countless ages, he has been successful with millions of people – urging them towards more power, more wealth or more of whatever they want. He is winning the war!
We, the thinking people, are his “public enemy #1” as we are not seduced by the attractions he has to offer since we do not desire power, wealth or any other of his “charms” and it is our responsibility to carry the fight to him in word and deed.
The battle will not be won in my lifetime; the day when he and his brethren are safely corralled (for good this time) are far away – perhaps your children may see it, certainly your children’s children or their descendants, will. The caveat is that we must pass on to them the genetic material which makes us his enemy – and that’s the fight which faces us.
