TREADING THE LESS FREQUENTED PATH

People say there is security in routine, a sentiment with which I would agree but only up to a point. For the vast majority of us a routine of whatever style is one method of getting through (or over) the multitude of problems that await us at every turn.

However, often there are times when breaking out of our comfort zone has the same effect. The mind needs stimulation – motivation of any sort can bring unknown rewards. We spend over 30% of our life at work and a further 30% sleeping. The first is (probably) a necessity since we need that aspect of our lives as ‘compensation’ for the remainder and I am not going to delve into “work” and its meaning and value. The second point is unavoidable.

It is the other ‘third’ that is a prime consideration – what we do with it and how we use it. If we fall into the trap of treating it merely as an extension of our ‘normalised’ existence, we miss out big time. I remember my dear old grandfather saying to me that the two saddest words in the English language were “IF ONLY” and I believe him to have been right since my view is identical. Sitting down after a working day or perhaps in the middle of a sleepless night, how often have you looked back and used these words?

Everywhere in life, options confront us – do we take the safer (better-known and understood) route or branch out into unknown territory where we have no clear idea where it will lead? I have rarely opted for the former but rather explored new ‘unknowns’ – I can say in all honesty I have NOT used my grandfather’s words!

I know I am coming to the end of a life full of surprises, excitement, lucky chances and, yes, disappointments (at times), but would I change it even if I could? NOT ONE IOTA as I am more than delighted with my span of years and what they have contained.

Look at yourselves; are you not as content as you would wish; are you an ‘IF ONLY’ person. If your answer is yes, then GYMM is the answer….

Get your mind moving - and find contentment, mental motivation and get to know yourself - tread the less frequented path.

 Until next time,

P.S.
