A BITTER EXPERIENCE

Since my last blog post, things have not been too good. Physically, I have to have another series of hospital appointments to repair damage to my lower back but apart from that, no really deep problems. Psychologically, it’s a different story and one with which I will not bore you here. At least I am aware of the situation, which may well be a (false) positive! Suffice to say that I have adopted a different (more pragmatic) approach to life and people.

My start is this:

I will not let negative thinking get the better of me; criticism for its own sake is a waste of time. Lack of confidence in myself can knock me backwards, so I shall believe in myself even when others don’t.

I shall sail a straight and true path through the currents of self-doubt and ignore the sometimes jealous remarks of others who would like to see me give up and fail. I now look to making small multiple moves instead of big leaps; they all count and I shall go just as far in the long term.

Until next time (and with a new mindset),

  1. Tough, P.S. Hope the problem can soon be cured... some very important messages coming through this post, and as I know children get very uptight about peer group insensitivity, I shall get them to consider your words very carefully. Thanks again,

  2. Mark thanks for your good wishes - I'm sure all will be fine in due course. I fully agree with your views on peer group insensitivity; children can often be extremely cruel to each other, so perhaps these words may be of help.

  3. Good luck and just keep on thinking and living in the way you always have!
    And I quote the following yet again:

    IF you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
    if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

  4. Thanks, Lucana. It's always good to be reminded of Kipling as he has so much to offer in this work. For me at the moment, the words that ring loudest are "hold on"!! (And I intend to).
