WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS

Amazingly, there is one thing they have in common – they cost one hell of a lot! I've had one of the former (but luckily haven't got round to the latter yet), although it could be argued that the latter doesn't really have any great impact on you – you can't take it with you!

Both “events” remind me of going to the bank for a loan (always assuming of course, you are successful). You go in and respond to a multitude of questions (often personal), wondering whether they will even require a blood sample (are you really alive?) and then wait, until that glorious moment when someone, somewhere says the magic word – “YES”….
With head held high, a smile on your face and a spring in your step, you walk out - safe in the knowledge you have achieved your aim.

Your sense of euphoria (ecstasy and exhilaration) lasts 10 minutes? 30 minutes? a day? It depends on how much you want the money.

And then… the moment you have spent it, what then? Deflation sets in and you feel like a punctured rubber ball, knowing you have to repay it.

So there you are:

“borrowing is like a wedding – paying it back is like a funeral”

Until next time (no more weddings, the funeral I couldn’t care less about),

  1. AN amazing and fertile imagination, P.S. I would never think of linking weddings and funerals to getting a bank loan but you're absolutely right and I shall use this as a valuable lesson for school children!

  2. As a (retired) bank manager from rural England, I think this is one of the best analogies I have ever heard or read! And it is all so true - delight then despair...a series of great images runs through my head. This is something to share with colleagues over a few beers in my local pub!!!

  3. From Atlanta US - beautiful piece, I shall pass it around my community. It's about time we had a laugh at the "banksters" (!!!)Don't think this will be appreciated on Wall Street - but tough shit!

  4. Thanks Anonymous(NZ). Fertile imagination? Don't know - but next time you want a loan, think about what I have written (and don't laugh at them)!

  6. Thank you, Atlanta. If it is appreciated on Wall Street, I shall be MOST disappointed - I want them to fully understand that their actions have caused much pain!
