VICIOUS CIRCLES

The “Kings” head falls – and tyranny gives way to freedom; happiness is everywhere. The change seems awful to some. However, little by little, the “face” of freedom hardens until it becomes to resemble “tyranny”. Then the cycle starts again…. and again…and again.

However, behind the interplay of all these “opposites” there is something permanent and fundamental:

The basic delusion that mankind may be governed
but still be free

So said H. L. Mencken who is not everyone’s favourite writer or viewpoint, but he certainly has a valid point in this instance.

Having spent some years near to the “seat of authority” (government) I can see how his words and those opposite ring true. I have seen close-up the type of “deals” that are put together – and been on the receiving end of the implications of those “deals”. Now, I have no desire to be governed by psychopaths whose own interests come before those of their country. I want to be allowed “space” in which to be a normal, functioning human being, contributing something to my country as well as my fellow citizens.

Guess I’m just an old dinosaur whose standards don’t resonate in the society we have today.

How are YOUR standards? Can you accept how you are governed?

Until next time (and now outside the vicious circle),

  1. Nice barbed comment on the majority of politico's P.S. and I can imagine (reading the news from Europe) that what you say is behind the thinking of the majority of thinking people. Down here we are more fortunate than you "northern types"; being small and isolated we enjoy (if that's the right word) a better form of government especially at the local level. What are the chances of Europe disintegrating as this could prove very useful to us.... (ha ha)!!!

  2. An excellent blog post again, P.S.! Unfortunately, most of us do accept the way we are governed simply because we do not believe in ourselves. Also, there's a feeling "one psychopath or another, what difference does it make?" Hence, we are in a vicious circle....

  3. Thanks Anonymous and I agree you are probably more fortunate. Even with a "large neighbour" you are your own boss! Europe is in a tough position. IF the politicians can stop talking and actually DO something then I think it may (just) survive (and I'm talking about the Eurozone). The European Union as a whole will continue but it certainly needs to go back to basics and, as I have said before, consider growth and development rather than painful cutting as the sole remedy.

  4. Thanks Lucana. Passive acceptance is the problem almost everywhere and yes, to a degree you are right saying "whats the difference". However, I come at the problem from the point of view that if it is so bad, it needs changing and whilst I am not a "politician" I do involve myself in the push for fundamental change.
