HAPPY

Nothing to do with ones state of mind but everything to do with wishing others hope for the future.

To say that the last three years or so have been tough is a great piece of English understatement!  A long dead custom springs to mind as I write this blog.  From a memory clouded by alcohol, cigarettes and general “good living” I remember from my childhood it was usual to wish anyone whether family, friends or acquaintances “happy month” on the first day of a new month. Sadly, as far as I know, this quite lovely greeting has died (along with so many others). In the days I remember it was a salutation of hope for a better time (after so many long months of war time austerity) – a hope that the next month would bring better conditions.

We should not expect too much in the months and years to come, but there is still room to wish each other better days. Personally, I would love to see these words translated into every language on this planet and passed from one person to another as a beacon of hope.

So, from an ageing dinosaur with an elephantine memory,

HAPPY NEW MONTH

May it bring you at least a small improvement in your circumstances.

Until next time (and all my best wishes),

  2. Welcome back, P.S. Hope you had a good festive season. Apart from the occasional "tremor" it's been good down here and have managed some excellent sailing with the family. Will send photos soon. 2012 looks to be "interesting" so will look forward to some more comments on all matters from you. Happy New Year!

  4. Hi to you in NZ. OK you're in the middle of summer and it's great to have good weather for sailing. I read about the recent tremors and hope that you have not been affected - certainly not to the same extent as last time. Looking forward to the pictures - even though I'll probably go green with envy. P.S.
