A lot of good friends have helped me in this. Without their assistance it would never have happened. Of course, they are not the only ones to have had a hand in this; her ambience has also had a great effect.
“She” has shown me her charms rather like a top class poker player “reads” his hand and those of others and I have responded. Energetically and with pleasure. And I like to think we have found mutual pleasure in each other; time will tell.
At this point I should point out that for Brits of a certain age, background and education, “she” not only refers to the females of the species, but also to countries (rather than “it” which denigrates the country and its name).
So I have to confess that I have been seduced by a country; the one where I shall spend the remainder of my days in peace, tranquillity, with ample sun on my old bones and with a host of wonderful people surrounding me.
And the country…..wait and see!
So, if you are visiting a certain part of southern Europe and happen to stumble across a white bearded English-speaking sailor in a small boat – it’s me. I am happy with my decision and I know I will not regret it. Some friends tell me I’m stupid – “why there” is their question, “they have so many problems”. My response is “show me any country without problems and I will show you a deserted island”.
Problems are made to be overcome – I shall do my (small) bit to help others overcome theirs….
Until next time (and totally seduced),

Hey, P.S.- you certainly know how to capture peoples attention with a good title! I wonder how many readers logged on to this title expecting to find...... and how many logged on expecting to find something "unusual"!! This is good for my class as it shows how you can paint word pictures with a title that everyone thinks will be something else. Good to show them how you can make a big mark. Well done.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - thanks for the kind words. My old English professor once said that language is an imperfect medium for communication but it's the only one we have. It's not the amount of words you know but the way in which you can put them together so that the reader has "signposts" and can easily follow what you are trying to say. P.S.
ReplyDeleteI commented on an earlier blog saying I was a new reader. I am amazed how you can turn your "writing hand" from one topic to another totally unconnected. I think you must have had a very good education and also to have seen much of this planet we should be caring for. Thank you from one pensioner to another.
ReplyDeleteHi, Anonymous in UK. Thanks for the kind words, and yes, I had an excellent education (I wrote about it in an earlier blog) and yes I have seen an awful lot of the world. I think underlying what you write is my view that no matter your age, you always have the ability to use the little grey cells and that's what I try to do! P.S.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And the fact that you have seen an awful lot of the world makes your choice even more valuable. She seems to have seduced you completely, as you have decided to stay irrespective of all the difficulties and problems! Enjoy your stay!

Lucana- thank you. My new home is in the right place for me in that it is (comparatively) near to every<thing and everywhere I want. Problems and difficulties are there to be overcome - their level of influence reduced - so I can say honestly there is no such place as "ideal" this one comes as near as is possible - for me. P.S.
