VIEWPOINT 4

QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES?*
I recently had a long and involved on-line discussion with some of the ‘Mindful Money’ community on what the results of the recent summit in Cannes might mean for the Eurozone countries in the near future. This blog is a result of those discussions as I asked the above question but none could give me an answer that satisfied me.

You may know that this Latin phrase is commonly used with regard to the problem of how to ensure that those entrusted to watch over the interests of the state (any state) do so faithfully. I believe it to be an imperative since there appears to be very little “watching” over those who are supposed to watch over the state and as a result the average individual has only a vague (at best) understanding of the checks and balances that (should) be looking after his interests.

For me the question is: how to reverse this state of affairs or at least make those in authority more accountable?

If we thinking people are under such an attack how can we defend ourselves? There is no "United Nations for the Common People", no higher authority to whom we can appeal, no avenue of redress. Please do not think I am advocating revolution; I am a semi-pacifist but one who guards his freedom above all else.We need evolution towards a new system in which authority is held to account for its (collective) actions. The "Occupy Wall Street" movement is a good start point BUT it needs ONE cohesive message delivered by ONE individual (who is neither politic or economic but well-versed in both) and the message to be delivered to the ears of all.

Only when the "guardians" fully understand and react positively to the anger of the "99%" can the average man feel free.

Until next time (and working towards freedom)

  1. This is TRULY magnificent, P.S. What you have done is to capture the spirit that I'm sure is deep within each of us. I know you're not political by nature and probably not too economics-oriented, so maybe you foot the leadership role? Only joking as I think you would agree that something as important as this needs to be left to a younger individual. Keep going, mate!

  2. Anonymous - thanks for the good words. You are 100% right. IF I were 30 years younger, I would be leading the "charge" but now "anno domini" are not on my side, so I have to leave it to others, but willing to give my verbal support. Thanks again - and watch this space for more hard-hitting comments!
