THE VIEW FROM.....

According to recent reports, the ESO (European Southern Observatory in Chile) have released a photograph of what they call a “sibling”of our own galaxy. It goes by the glorious name of NGC6744. Here is their photograph:

It lies some 30 million light years away from us and is almost twice as large as the Milky Way. It is said that the arms may host many star-forming regions as the glow coming from hydrogen gas in these regions shows up as red in the image.

I find this amazing – 30 million light years is a long way. My hope is that they are running their bit of the universe better than we are running ours!

There may even be another Peripatetic Scribe sitting over his (much more advanced) computer, churning out blogs! Now THAT'S a frightening thought......

Until next time (and another galaxy),

P.S.
