THE BLUES

The blues now and then.....”

Unusually and regrettably, that's where I find myself at the moment; unusually since I try to be as positive about life as I possibly can be; regrettably since part of what is bringing on this fit of 'the blues' is something totally outside my orbit to change! (The second reason is that I am scheduled to enter hospital in a few days – not greatly happy about that!)

Mankind has three stupidities – hatred (of an individual, group or ethics), warfare (waged under the name of “freedom”) and greed. To me, the last of these is probably responsible for more fatalities than the other two combined. Why? Because greed kills the spirit, suffocates entrepreneurialism and breeds uncontrolled power.

And it seems to me that of the three, greed is the one which most people almost take for granted – it’s insidious, gliding silkily along without anyone really noticing it until it is too late to stop it. The Ten Commandments have long ago been torn up, to be replaced by just one:

“screw others before they screw you”

A recipe for disaster if I ever saw one.

Or, maybe I am the odd one out - a dinosaur from another age with values and mores that do not gel in this age. Perhaps there is a personalised meteorite just waiting to get me, and I shall go the same way as the other dinosaurs before me. C’est la vie…..
